Banking Business (Jersey) Law 1991, as amended (BB(J)L)

The Jersey Financial Services Commission (the JFSC) issues this public statement under Article 48(2) of the BB(J)L.

This statement is made in order to warn members of the public against dealing with unauthorised financial service providers and to advise the public of the Website and the Email Address which purports to represent Barclays Bank plc, Jersey Branch. The entity purporting to represent Barclays Bank plc, Jersey Branch (the Scam Barclays Bank), has not received authorisation to conduct deposit-taking business within the meaning of the BB(J)L.

It appears to the JFSC that the Scam Barclays Bank is falsely purporting to trade from an address of 13 Library Place, St Helier, Jersey, JE4 8NE and is carrying on, or holding out that it is carrying on, deposit-taking business in Jersey when it is not authorised to do so pursuant to the provisions of the BB(J)L.

The JFSC wishes the following to be known:

1. The Scam Barclays Bank, the Website and the Email Address are not connected in any way to Barclays Bank plc, Jersey Branch and companies within the Barclays Group. In Jersey, Barclays Bank plc, Jersey Branch is located at 39-41 Broad Street, St Helier, JE4 8PU and at PO Box 8, 13 Library Place, St Helier, JE4 8NE and is authorised by the JFSC to conduct regulated activities.

2. The Scam Barclays Bank has never been registered, nor applied for registration, under the BB(J)L. Therefore any deposit-taking business, as defined in Article 3 of the BB(J)L and carried out by the Scam Entity, is in breach of Article 8 of the BB(J)L.

3. From documentation held by the JFSC, it would appear that the Scam Barclays Bank, the Website and the Email Address display warning signs of being set up for a fraudulent purpose.

All regulated businesses in Jersey are listed on our website.

Any person who has had dealings with the Scam Barclays Bank is requested to contact the JFSC.
