myRegistry for accountants and lawyers

Introduction

This guidance is for lawyers or accountants who are ordinarily resident in Jersey and carry on business described in paragraph 1 or paragraph 2 of Part B of Schedule 2 to the Proceeds of Crime (Jersey) Law 1999.

As a lawyer or accountant, to interact with the Registry you must register for an account on myRegistry.

What you can do in myRegistry

myRegistry allows you to:

  • register to act as the nominated person for your own and client entities
  • maintain a portfolio of the entities for which you are the nominated person
  • prepare and file submissions
  • purchase documents and extracts from the public register
  • add employee users and assign portfolios and privileges

Employees must be added as users on your account before signing up to myRegistry.

Secure access to client information

myRegistry provides a secure environment to interact with Registry. You can only view private information and file submissions for your organisation or on behalf of client entities if you have been appointed to act as the nominated person.

Before you can gain access or make any submissions, you must:

  • submit a Register Nominated Person for each client entity
  • once registered, assign the entity to your employees via the portfolio management menu

Steps to use myRegistry

These are the steps you need to follow to use myRegistry for your organisation or on behalf of client entities:

Step 1 - first time users only

Register for and set up a myRegistry user account

You will need the following information:

  • email address
  • first and last name
  • mobile telephone number or authentication app

For step-by-step instructions, see the “How do I get access” section in our myRegistry help page.

Browser compatibility

myRegistry is designed and tested to operate on the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Firefox. myRegistry does not support Microsoft Internet Explorer 11.

Setting up employees

If you are setting up an employee user from your account, they must be added as a user before completing the registration process. As an administrator, you can add users via Group settings in myRegistry.

Step 2 – all returning users

Tell us you are the nominated person

As the nominated person you will act as the main contact between the entity and the Registry. You can:

  • complete required submissions on behalf of the entity
  • view private and public information, including beneficial owner and controller details

An entity can appoint more than one nominated person.

Who can be appointed as a nominated person

Under Article 6(1) of the Financial Services (Disclosure and Provision of Information) (Jersey) Law 2020, the following can be appointed as a nominated person:

(a) a person registered under Part 2 of the Financial Services (Jersey) Law 1998 to carry on trust company business that involves the provision of a service –

(i) to act as or arrange for another person to act as secretary, alternate, assistant or deputy secretary of a company or a limited liability partnership, or

(ii) to provide a registered office or business address for a company, partnership or foundation;

(b) a significant person of the entity who is ordinarily resident in Jersey

(c) a lawyer who is ordinarily resident in Jersey and carrying on business described in paragraph 1 of Part B of Schedule 2 to the Proceeds of Crime (Jersey) Law 1999

(d) an accountant who is ordinarily resident in Jersey and carrying on business described in paragraph 2 of Part B of Schedule 2 to the Proceeds of Crime (Jersey) Law 1999

(e) a fund services business construed in accordance with Article 2(10) of the Financial Services (Jersey) Law 1998

(f) such other person as may be prescribed.

To register as a nominated person

You can register as a nominated person in two ways:

  • log on to your myRegistry account
  • select register as nominated person from the home page of myRegistry.

Alternatively:

  • select start new submission and select register nominated person
  • search for the entity for which you will act as nominated person by using the entity name or number
  • check that the entity details are correct

Nominated person details

You can register under your individual name or the name of your law or accountancy firm, provided:

  • you are carrying on business as described in paragraph 1 or 2 of Part B of Schedule 2 of the Proceeds of Crime (Jersey) Law 1999
  • and are resident in Jersey

To register under the name of your law or accountancy firm, put the name of your firm in the ‘first name’ box and the legal ending of your firm in the ‘surname’ box.

You will only need to do this on the first nominated person submission. All future submissions will auto-populate. For name changes, you will need to email or phone to request a change via our support team. The contact details can be found at the top of this page.

Step 3 - Complete your registration

Authorisation code

Once we have processed your submission, we will send an authorisation code to the entity’s registered office address. You will need to:

  • contact your client for the authorisation code
  • log in to myRegistry and locate the Nominated Person PIN Verification submission in the Start a New Submission menu
  • enter the authorisation code as directed on screen

You must be authorised as the nominated person before you can complete any further steps for that entity.
