Press Release - 3 July 2002
COMMISSION APPOINTS CO-ORDINATOR FOR ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING PROJECT
The Jersey Financial Services Commission has announced the appointment of Finance Sector Compliance Advisers as co-ordinator for the forthcoming redraft of the Island's Anti-Money Laundering Guidance Notes for the Finance Sector.
Mr. Stephen Platt, Managing Director of Finance Sector Compliance Advisers, will work closely on the project with Ms. Sue Thornhill of MHA Consulting. Mr. Platt has extensive knowledge of the offshore finance sector, and Jersey's existing anti-money laundering framework. Ms. Thornhill has considerable experience in developing anti-money laundering guidance in the UK and elsewhere.
The revised Guidance Notes will implement provisions already set out in the Commission's recent Position Paper on "Know Your Customer" principles and reflect international developments since July 1999, when the current set of Notes were issued.
The Commission is eager to encourage input from the finance sector and has established an Anti-Money Laundering Steering Group, consisting of industry representatives, to assist in re-writing the Guidance Notes.
Richard Pratt, Director General of the JFSC commented "Stephen Platt and Sue Thornhill have just the right kind of experience to help us, in partnership with industry, to write clear practical Guidance Notes which implement the principles set out in our Position Paper."
