PRESS RELEASE 3 December 2009

The Jersey Financial Services Commission (the “Commission”) and the Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission Belgium (“CBFA”) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) that will help facilitate co-operation between the two regulatory bodies.

The agreement commits both CBFA and the Commission to provide help within the limits of each jurisdiction’s laws and establishes procedures and liaison points so that requests for information needed for regulatory purposes, including tackling financial regulatory offences, can be handled rapidly and efficiently.

John Harris, Director General of the Commission, said, “I am delighted to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with CBFA.  Regulators around the world are looking to build and maintain close co-operation and regular dialogue with each other.  This agreement will assist in that regard; such collaboration should help to protect investors and depositors and promote the integrity of financial services markets in Jersey and Belgium.”

A copy of the MOU can be downloaded from the Commission’s Website by clicking here.
